Who we are
For 70 years, NPFA has been a source of information for fishermen and an organization that represents independent harvesters at every level from Alaskan coastal communities to Washington D.C. We are working hard to preserve and protect Alaska's commercial fisheries for generations to come.
NPFA works with other industry leaders on innovative solutions to our regional issues, like affordable observer coverage and data collection for fisheries management. We have worked closely with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, industry partners and technical and observer service providers to develop electronic logbooks for data entry, electronic monitoring (EM) development and implementation in both federal hook and line and pot gear fisheries, the use of machine learning to better improve image quality and improved catch handling protocols that benefit crews, EM video reviewers and the data that eventually is utilized in fisheries management.
We support the many small businesses that are Alaska’s independent harvesters, marine safety and trades, access to fisheries, and seafood infrastructure.
We are proud members of United Fishermen of Alaska, Homer Marine Trades Association and Seafood Harvesters of America.
